Collaborate with us to solve the future needs of mass transit.

At BASF, one of our tenets is that we innovate to help our customers be more successful. For the mass transit market, that means continually delivering ground-breaking solutions that help manufacturers make buses and trains more affordable to operate, more sustainable and more comfortable.

Fuel efficiency is at the heart of lowering the cost of fleet operations. We’re helping manufacturers create a more sustainable future through our lightweighting solutions. From highly durable engineering plastics that can replace metal parts to composite floor panels that weigh far less than traditional marine-grade plywood, our R&D team is always looking to lose more weight.

Metal Organic Framework

Many transit authorities are moving towards natural gas-powered buses as an alternative to diesel engines. BASF Energy Storage business is currently evaluating Metal Organic Frameworks as part of natural gas (NG) fuel systems on board vehicles. This novel NG fuel system could potentially have higher storage capacity than compressed natural gas (CNG) at CNG pressure (3600 psi) or equivalent CNG storage capacity at pressures lower than CNG. Such an innovation would enable transit fleet operators not only to realize natural gas based fuel savings in comparison to diesel.

We have also forged new paths in the area of battery materials, a focus for manufacturers and operators. Our advanced cathode materials offer higher energy density, better safety and improved efficiency, which translates into increased battery range and a longer battery lifetime.

Because at BASF, we create chemistry for a sustainable future.

Currently the MOF technology is only available for buses.
